Dr Jordan Smith is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle and Deputy Lead of the Schools’ research theme within the University of Newcastle Centre for Active Living and Learning.

Dr Smith obtained a Bachelor of Teaching (Health & Physical Education) in 2010 and PhD (Education) in 2015 from the University of Newcastle after which he commenced a full-time academic position within the University’s School of Education. His research focuses on promoting physical activity for child and adolescent health, with an emphasis on school-based interventions, promoting muscle-strengthening exercise (i.e., resistance training), and priority populations such as low-income youth, older adolescents, and youth living with disability.
Dr Smith’s research also explores the mechanisms underpinning the ‘exercise effect’ on young peoples’ cognitive and mental health with the goal of optimising physical activity programs for well-being among school-aged youth.
