Dr. Natalie Niessen is the Program Manager of the HMRI Infection Research Program and a Postdoctoral Researcher within the HMRI Immune Health Program. She is actively involved in transplant immunology research, focusing on molecular pathways, biomarkers, and potential therapeutic targets in kidney transplant recipients to manage infection and organ rejection.

Dr Niessen holds a PhD in Medicine from the University of Newcastle. With a background in molecular biosciences, her research investigated aberrant inflammatory signaling in asthma. Her work has improved understanding of the pathogenesis and progression of severe asthma subtypes, laying the groundwork to identify novel therapeutic targets.

Dr Niessen’s PhD was supported by the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Severe Asthma PhD Support Grant.
