Dr Zac Germon is Project Manager and researcher in the Cancer Signalling Research Group (CSRG) at the University of Newcastle. Awarded his PhD in Medical Biochemistry in November 2022, his doctoral work focused on the influence of oxidative stress on the growth and survival of blood cancer cells. His subsequent postdoctoral research expanded this expertise into the cellular and molecular drivers of high-risk paediatric cancers, including DIPG.
Working under the leadership of Professor Matt Dun, Dr Germon now manages the execution of large, multi-site oncology research projects within CSRG, overseeing project scope, timelines, deliverables, and budgets in alignment with funding body requirements. He works closely with team leaders, clinical partners, and industry stakeholders to drive projects toward meaningful scientific and clinical outcomes.
Dr Germon’s contributions to the field span 11 peer-reviewed publications with over 500 citations (h-index 9). His published work employs systems-wide biology approaches to investigate both genomic and non-genomic drivers of cancer, with the aim of identifying novel treatment strategies and progressing these toward clinical trials. Bringing together scientific expertise and project leadership, Zac is committed to advancing translational cancer research with the ultimate goal of improving outcomes for children diagnosed with these cancers.
