After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the HMRI Ball returned, with the 2022 HMRI “Reunion” Ball at Newcastle City Hall on Saturday the 25th of June.
After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the HMRI Ball returned, with the 2022 HMRI “Reunion” Ball at Newcastle City Hall on Saturday the 25th of June.The ball broke all previous records raising almost $200,000 for medical research.
HMRI Director Professor Frances Kay-Lambkin said it was wonderful to see the ball back in action.
“The last few years have been difficult for the Hunter community and while COVID-19 is still very much with us it was great to see so many of our supporters in person again,” Professor Kay-Lambkin said.
“On behalf of everyone at HMRI I am so grateful for the generosity of our community who have raised so much money to support our research.”
The ball featured an array of unique prizes for auction and raffle, including exquisite pearls for the raffle, a European Cruise and unique experiences.
The 36 auction prizes were all donated by generous businesses and community members.
One of the standout items for auction was this year’s HMRI Art Series painting “Seahorse” by Melisah May, which sold under the hammer for $14,000!
Seahorse is based on the work of HMRI’s 2021 Researcher of the Year Neuroscientist and Psychiatrist, Professor Michael Breakspear.
